Star Fox: Assault

Star Fox: Assault - GameCube

A good try, but not a good game.

Starfox 64 is unquestionably one of the best shooting games of all time. Starfox Assault tries to bring the series onto the gamecube, but unforunately manages to make one of the funnest things ever, not so fun anymore. The game isnt a total flop. The graphics look great, the arwing and character designs are top notch. Voice acting isnt the best, but its still pretty good. And being able to land the arwing and run around shoot some things, then hop in a landmaster all in the same level is pretty cool. But flying the arwing isnt fun anymore. The ship flies so dang slow, and lasers dont fire as fast. Plus upgrades dont carry over between levels, so you have to start with single laser each time you start a level. The path the ships take through a level is twisty and curvy, which is awesome, but you crawl through the levels. There is no sense of speed at all. This game is definately worth a rental. Even a crappy arwing adventure is still an arwing adventure. But the repetitive foot missions and the complete lack of speed in the arwings ruin the game. Plus, the hyper lasers dont make the awesome noise they used to. This game was a decent first try, considering that it wasnt rare that made it. If they learn from their mistakes, then the next game could really be an amazing game. But Assault, just isnt there yet.
