Earth and Beyond

Earth and Beyond - PC

Amazingly Innovative and Compelling Game

Though EA allowed the game to die, I couldn't help but write something in its memory. Earth and Beyond was my first mmorpg, and still my favorite, even over World of Warcraft. The gameplay was incredibly original and the story was gripping and made you feel humbled in your environment. The universe of EnB was massive and full of mystery. You never knew what you might find in a lonely portion of space if you kicked your warp drive in and didn't plot a course! Combat was fun, and the story participation was surprisingly strong. The player-enabled article writing via the Net 7 news agency was pretty fun too. The player economy was strong and robust; many tradesmen had reputations for their abilities to make rare weapons and shielding, etc... which is something I never found in WoW. EnB's crafting proved to be rather lucrative and enjoyable. Analyzing a new device or weapon for the first time was surprisingly fun. The game's storyline was perhaps the most powerful of any part of the game. Humanity had been split into 3 races, though all are still completely human. After wars over an ancient gate technology found far away in our solar system, things cooled and technology progressed. When the players enter the game, an alien race begins roaming and exploring human controlled areas of space and eventually become hostile over these gates which we share a profound destiny with. Go to EBportal.com for the full story document. Anyway, it was an amazing game and needs to be revisited.
