Dungeon Crawling Goodness
An almost non-existant story line and alot of action drive Dungeon Siege to the top of RPG fans' lists everywhere. But don't expect anything really groundbreaking in return for your $50 dollar purchase. First you create a male or female character and start the game. When a group of stupid grunts destroy your homeland, you set off to find out what the heck is going on. But basically your just running from point A to point B. But the story isn't the driving force in this game. It's the amount of customization and non-stop action that gives this game the edge. Fighting consists of just getting your guys to see the enemy, then they take care of it for you. Although this relieves some of the finger fatigue from Diablo, it still takes that personal touch from spell casting, as switching between spells will slow down the action or leave you franticly muddling around in your spell book. But watching the battles play out is great fun. You don't level up in this game either. You gain melee or ranged skills by using swords or bows. You also gain strength in the same way. This allows your characters to grow in the way that you use them. But, are the graphics good you say? Oh yes. Dungeon Siege doesn't disapoint in this department. Every environment is striking in detail and variety. Trees sway, water flows, all that good stuff is done in a high calibur fashion. The game basically keeps you hooked by making you want to see that next area. The game also features a uniqe and practical engine. There was some slowdown during heated battles, but you will never have to see a loading screen when in transition from on local to the other. A rather welcome sight to anyone who has loading screen fatigue. The game also features a rather robust online option. In fact, that world is about twice as big as the single player realm, giving the game excellent replay value for months, or maybe years to come. Although Dungeon Siege isn't exactly ground breaking, it still is a great treat to play.
