Mortal Kombat Armageddon

Mortal Kombat Armageddon - PS2

The best Mortal Kombat yet

Blood. Guts. Gore. Gratuitous violence. What's not to like? A classic for a new age of gamers to relish for awhile...at least until the new MK comes out. Unfortunatley the PS2 will be ending it's run with the MK franchise, instead focusing the upcoming MK8 (title unreleased as of yet) onto it's new PS3. Ed Boon gave the PS2 MK a good farewell with Mortal Kombat:Armageddon. The graphics were decent, and every character ever used in MK are playable making a grand total of 62 characters. Well, make that 63 with the new Kreate A Kharacter, also refered to as a KAK, or a KAF (Kreate A Fighter). A new feature that allows players to design thier own version of the perfect fighter, with a gigantic assortment of custom moves, specials, and attire. Want a fighter with Scorpions spear and Subzeros freezeball, with demon horns and a tail? Those are just some of the benefits to this new feature. Konquest mode introduces two new characters to the series, with Taven and Daegon, two brothers charged with some quest...nothing really special, just have to defeat Blaze. The real bonus to MKA is the online play. Now with the addition of Motor Kombat, a Mario Kart type challenge for up to 8 people. Though seeing as this is MK, it is bloody, with death traps, and deadly specials for your car. There are 10 playable racers, and 5 tracks. Only one track lacks a death trap, making it easier for newcomers to get use to the steering, which is primo. (My personal favorite part of MKA was the Motor Kombat section, seeing as how I got up to rank 8 online, though since it's been a bit since I've played, my rank is in the 30's now). You can make an unlimited amount of gamer tags, there is no need for credit cards, I've had over 100 names myself. Though hacking names on this game is easy with no option to complain about certain aggravating peple that every online game seems to automatically have "kids" Which brings us back to fighting. There are death traps in the majority of the levels making it a little more difficult to focus on your opponent and your environment as well. Midway has decided to forgo their usual fatality specials that differ for each character, instead focusing on a Kreate A Fatality. You can get up to an Ultimate fatality which could include anything from ripping your limbs and organs off, to skewering your opponent in the butt like a grotesque shishkabob. There are the usual amount of cheaters who pull the cord, or quit, but other than that...oh, and the incredible lag, the online play is the main reason for buying Mortal Kombat Armageddon. A lobby for conversation, seperate rooms for KAK fighters only, Motor Kombat only, or you can make your own room and lock it with a password for invitation only klan challenges. This game should provide entertainment for a good while, and will become a classic. A solid ending to PS2's MK franchise. Well done.
