Castlevania: Curse of Darkness

Castlevania: Curse of Darkness - PS2

Pretty good game...bad camera

I was not truly fond of the last console Castlevania game, Lament of Innocence. So when I heard about this game, my hopes were not high, but this game wasn't too bad. This game, like many other recent entries of the series was very similar to Symphony of the Night. A playable character (Hector) who wasn't limited to a whip, but instead using many different weapons. The use of Innocent Devils is similar to the Familiar system of SOTN, as is the option of playing as Trevor Belmont after clearing the game. It is a deep and intriging story that has many twists that show this to be a true Castlevania game Many of the classic enemies and bosses are seen in this game and the visuals are done in great detail, as are the cutscenes. My only gripe is the camera of this game seems a little unpredictble, even with the player able to control it. At times, backgrounds impair the sight of the action and you can't see who or what you are fighting. The Lock-on helps but can also hinder combat a little and sometimes you can get turned around. Castlevania: Curse of Darkness is a sound entry in the series and greatly pays homage to games past, even though the camera control could have been better. It's still a game any Castlevania vet or any action game fan would like to own.
