Except the gamer
The Suffering rides into town with an interesting action packed entry in the survival/horror genre. Even though it concentrates more on the action don't be thinking it's going to be a scareless walk in the woods. You play as Torque a newly arrived inmate on Carnate Island. All hell breaks loose shortly after your arrival and you find your self battling to survive. Why are monsters coming out of the ground, what are these hallucinations, and why can Torque turn into a big monster are all questions you will hopefully answer as you discover the dark secrets of Carnate. And monsters are the highlight of the game with designs by Stan Winston Studios; expect to see some gruesome things. The controls work well, but selecting ceratian items can be difficult in the heat of battle. It controls just like a FPS and even gives you the option to play it as a FPS. WARNING. Stay away from FPS mode. Well the are good if a bit boxy regularly, in FPS mode every little imperfection stands out and a couple animations such as reloading are downright horrible. The sound for the most part is top notch. Strange sounds, voices, and eerie music echo down the hallways. The occasional "scary" rap song sneaks its way in though, and when they do they seem completely out of place. The Suffering is a top-notch survival/horror game. It's high on action and still manages to be suprisingly scary. I haven't been this scared playing a game since the first Resident Evil. All you have to do is stay away from FPS mode and you'll be golden.
