Full Spectrum Warrior - Xbox

Mount up!

There are tons of games touting themselves as "highly realistic" shooters out there, but let's face it. One guy taking on an army of enemies isn't exactly realistic. But finally a game has been released that truly gives you a taste of actual military combat. And of course it was originally made for the U.S military. At first glance this game looks like a team based shooter. But in reality it's an RTS that puts you in control of two teams of four men, who you must maneuver through brilliantly modeled combat zones with all fingers and toes intact. The name of the game here is flanking rather then straight out shooting. Each encounter with an enemy is like a mini-puzzle in which you must find the best course of action to take, and one mistake can render two or more soldiers down. And it's game over. Although this seems like a daunting task during the first session since the controls are a bit awkward and the camera can be slightly bothersome at times, you will quickly become a battlefield genious as your men take out one tango after another. The graphics in this game are stunning as well. The horizen has an almost dreamy look to it, and the city the action takes place in actually looks like it is a real local with history. Your soldiers also move in a stunningly life-like fashion. The feeling of them being alive is really a critical part of the experience. These aren't nameless Halo marines, they are people with lives and families who you want to make it home. But the games major problem is that running from point A to point B constantly can get tedious. As well as the fact that making decisions quickly is nearly impossible since your team leader has to tell your squad to move before any action can take place. But just the fact that there really isn't another game like Full Spectrum Warrior is reason enough to check it out. It's combination of real life tactics and a strange attachment to these fictional people creates an immersive experience that all can enjoy.
