Armed & Dangerous

Armed & Dangerous - Xbox

Armed with humor

Shooters are not few and far between. They pop up like daises in April, and most are all the same. Well Armed and Dangerous may look the part of one of the many shooters out there on the surface, but deep in it's core lies an action roller coaster of humor and high explosives. In the game, you play the part of Roman, who teamed up with a tea-sipping robot and a mole looking humanoid with a knack for explosives, you set off to defeat, yet again, an evil tyrant. Although the story also sounds generic, the style and humor of the game will send you spraling around the floor with laughter at times. But what about the gameplay? After all, style cannot make up the entire game. Well fear not, this game keeps things simple, but exciting. Missions follow a basic linear path through a level in which you blow up everything you see using weapons that you buy along the way, which desserve special mention. The weapons in this game are creative and funny. Sending a shark through land to snatch up a baddy and suck him under gives unrivaled satisfaction. Your two compadre's aren't push overs either. If you just let them at it and watch them they can clear out an area with relatively good proficiancy and they follow orders precisely. The same could not be said for the enemy A.I though. Their tactics are to charge you with guns blazing. Which brings up a problem. Even with all the humor and cool weapons, you are mostly just going to mow down wave after wave of dumb enemies with a bland machingun. Oh shour they throw in a gun turret and a "defend this" mission every once in a while, but it still could get rather dull after a while. But most gamers will likely not notice, since the humor in the game is what mainly drives it. Any gamer who is a fan of action games should take a long look at this one, if only to see the funniest cutscenes since Conkers Bad Fur Day.
