Dead or Alive 3

Dead or Alive 3 - Xbox

A graphical masterpiece, but there's more to DOA3 than that!

DOA3, is the sequel to DOA2, which was one of the PS2 launch titles, in fact DOA3 was a Xbox launch title. Before i start the review i would like to talk about the graphics, as they are some of the finest to be seen on the Xbox. The game runs at a smooth 60-frames per second, and never slows down. There's no clipping, the animation looks fantastic and the character models look brilliant, especially the women of DOA, yet even when characters take lots and lots of damage, there's nothing to show they've been hurt, there's no scratches, no blood, nothing to show these fighters have been ripping each other apart. Also the arenas look fantastic as well, with lot's of detail. The whole game has an anime feel to it, thanks to its look and sound to it. The character models have a anime feel to it, but what really gives DOA3 an anime feel is it's music. Apart from the out of place Aerosmith songs, the soundtrack mostly consists of techno songs. The voice acting is done in Japanese, which will appeal to anime fans, but may put off other gamers, who don't really want to read subtitles to know what the fighters say. The game is a graphical masterpiece, but there's great gameplay to back up those graphics. Like the previous games, you will need to counter quite a lot, as the A.I. is very smart, and you'll certainly feel at home if you're a fighting game expert. There's no Xbox live, as this was a launch title and Xbox live wasn't even invented when DOA3 was released, but there's plenty of modes, including Storymode, Tag Mode, and, of course, multiplayer, and the most fun you'll have is with the multiplayer. Unless your mate hates fighting games, you'll have fun in the multiplayer. In the end, DOA3 is one of the best Xbox launch titles.
