Mortal Kombat Armageddon

Mortal Kombat Armageddon - Wii

The latest mortal kombat has ups and downs

Mortal kombat is the series that has nearly revolutionized fighting games since it's debut in the early 90's. After a few dissapointing games, the franchise was brought back to life with Mk:Deadly Alliance. After another sequel and a successful action game things have been going good for the bloodiest fighting game of all time. Armageddon for the wii is everything that was great about the other console versions except one thing that brings it down alot. The wii controls. Both I and my brother(avid kombat fans) finally got our hands on the wii armageddon. After trying a few matches with the wiimote we were both disgustead and switched to our classic controllers(Which I've used ever since). The motion special moves are very unresponsive. Sometimes the moves would work, sometimes not. The fighting system has been mapped to the d-pad which is equally moronic and very difficult to use. Fortunately you can use the gamecube controller or the classic controller instead. While using the classic controller compared to the ps2(after kicking ass with it at a friends), I could actually pull off moves more fluently and easilly with the classic controller. Despite these controller issues this is a huge game. The sheer scope of things to unlock is gigantic. The krypt returns with all the silly unlockables you know and love but, feels somewhat washed out this time, as if they ran out of stuff to cram into it. The create a fighter mode is expansive and very well made. Obviously midway intended for you to make certain characters(terminator, sephiroth, cloud, goku, lara croft)are all easy to create. The konquest mode has taken a shaolin monks sort of turn and is very fun. The training matches in the obelisks are the only quips I had with konquest. Near the end of the adventure the training missions are extremly difficult and frustrating. The barely there story is explained deeply with voice acting much much better than in Deception. Strangely midway chose not to include bios and instead put them on the website(another small problem I had). The graphics are decent and the girl models are a little lest ugly. Blood effects are still ridiculously copious and are more silly than gory or offensive. I was dissapointed in the kreate a fatality feature, not that it was bad. It was cool to completely tear apart the opponent but, I really missed the play-like fatalities in the past games. Despite these few(and big problem), any wii owner and kombat fan should by this game.
