Review: WTF: Work Time Fun
A psychotic collection of mini games is unleashed onto the PSP, allowing you to partake in such activities as guessing the phone numbers of tipsy Asian women in a bar and working in a ballpoint pen factory. Work Time Fun is a quintessential pick-up-and-play game that has something for just about everyone.
PROTIP: When playing Demonstration Roundup, don't let your line of protestors get too long. A good number to shoot for before leading them to the park is 300.
WTF am I Playing?
Work Time Fun is made up of more than thirty mini games presented in the form of part-time jobs that are given to you by demonic job placement officers. Most of the time, working these quirky jobs is a lot of fun, while other times they capture the hellacious monotony of some real life part-time jobs. The higher your score is the more money will be printed on your paycheck. Money can then be spent on vending machines to unlock more mini games. Vending machines also give you over four hundred different useless trinkets like a fish sausage ring and a baby potty with a duck's head on it.
In addition to mini games and junky toys, there are also ten tools you can unlock, which actually turn out to be just as fun as the mini games. Tools include a world clock, a restaurant bill splitter, and even a ramen noodles timer where you can watch a greased up man in a Speedo flex and countdown until your lunch is ready. Work Time Fun never takes itself seriously, not even for a second, but its weirdness is what makes it so amusing. Tips to playing the games in Work Time Fun, as well as awards for various achievements, will constantly be emailed to you. Bizarre messages will also appear in your inbox, such as the one where a small boy informed me that in an effort to become more beautiful, he had cosmetic surgery done to make his left arm a machine gun.
PROTIP: Playing Cliff Race 2000 is one of the fastest ways to make money. Once you've mastered it, you can make five dollars in less than two minutes.
Fun for All
No two games are identical in terms of graphics. While some games in Work Time Fun have graphics that hark back to the Super Nintendo days, others simply comprise mostly of photographs. The controls of most games are extremely easy to get used to, sometimes consisting of only having to press a single button repeatedly. Multiplayer versions of five of the games in the single player mode can be unlocked and played with a friend via a wireless connection, but it's a bit of a disappointment that you can only play five of the games in WTF with another person. You can also exchange trinkets and games you've earned with your buddies.
You'll laugh out loud in your time spent with Work Time Fun. You'll even become thoroughly immersed in what you're playing, despite its ridiculousness, and for thirty bucks, this is a game you should definitely consider adding to your PSP collection.
PROTIP: Don't be confused by the strange hairstyles of some baby chickens. If it has a bow, regardless of the rest of its appearance, it's a girl, and if not, it's a boy.
PROTIP: Watch out for granny's tricks. She'll toss out an animal carved out of a log when your score is high enough, and when that time comes chop it in half with your axe.
PROTIP: Freak people out in public by using the Eye Spy tool, which transforms the entire PSP screen into a set of eyes.
