NBA 06

In the battle for basketball supremacy, NBA 06 sets itself apart with a host of cool extras and tradable licensed cards.

Not to be confused with EA's "Live" series, Sony's NBA 06 doesn't have the quite the level of polished panache as its biggest competitor, but still manages to hold its own on the portable court. NBA 06 wisely attempts to distinguish itself from the rest of the pack with the inclusion of a handful of cool mini-games like Skills Challenge, Own the Court, 3-Point Shootout, HORSE, and our favorite, Dodgeball. NBA 06 also features the unique (but entirely uninteresting) ability to earn Upper Deck brand trading cards which can later be traded online, as well as the expected play modes like online multiplayer and All-Star games. The graphics are pleasantly smooth (though a tad bland) and the control scheme is reliable, while the lackluster commentary and standard soundtrack round out the audio presentation. Though it may not have the big blockbuster appeal of NBA Live, NBA 06 makes up for it with an excellent set of unique mini-games, making it a great choice for B-ballers looking for a little change in their game.
