The hands-on took us through above-ground, lusher areas to spider-ridden sewers. The collision detection and physics are still getting touched up, but all in all, there is plenty of hack-and-slashing to keep an action-RPG fan satisfied. And it isn't a walk in the park, either.
SOE is also stepping up the online multiplayer component to include four-person co-operative play in the single-player campaign. There is a max of two players per console (on the same screen, as there will be no split-screen play), or four players can play from four separate consoles. Multiplayer modes are to include king of the hill, last man standing, and of course, some nice 'n bloody deathmatch.
The story is much darker than previous UL games, too. The development team worked alongside Dungeons & Dragons editor Keith Baker to pen the Dark Kingdom story that is more complex and compelling this time around. The quick-and-dirty lowdown is as follows: The King has been influenced by an unknown evil force, and has discovered how to channel the pain and suffering of civilians into his army of Corrupter Soldiers. Civilians are taken to the King's sites of anguish to drain out their pain. Pretty intense, huh?
Check back in a couple weeks for more detailed information the other playable characters in Untold Legends: Dark Kingdom.
