Though the game won't be a gore fest, its dark new look is likely to attract lots of attention. Harnessing the power of Unreal Engine 3, MK vs. DC looks striking: character models appear to be highly detailed, with expressive animations and ornate costumes. MK vs. DC also deviates from recent Mortal Kombat games to show a darker, bleaker vision, with the MK characters boasting darker colors and fewer of the flamboyant outfits found in recent MK games. The camera also stays much closer to the action, a feature Midway calls "Klose Kombat." Fighters can also smash each other through walls into other locations while wrestling and striking in mid-air, a feature the game is calling "Freefall Kombat." In Freefall Kombat, the goal appears to be to stay in the dominant position on your opponent via punches and kicks, and then ride him into the ground.
Online play is a distinct possiblity; the word "online" is one solution in a puzzle on Noob.com, the blog of longtime Mortal Kombat lead designer Ed Boon.
To call the announcement of Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe "surprising" would be something of an understatement. The move has already been decried by some ardent MK veterans, and there's no doubt that the announcement is causing fierce debate in both the MK and DC Comics circles.
But Midway's got good reason to shake up the formula. Recent Mortal Kombat games, including Deception and Armageddon, were decent sellers but not particularly popular by the series' standards. Bringing in DC Comics characters, much like Soul Calibur IV's Yoda and Darth Vader guest roles, is a way to help expand the reach of the storied series.
We'll continue to cover Mortal Kombat vs. DC Comics, but for now, why not check out the first trailer and screenshots?
Sub-Zero gives Batman a roundhouse kick to the kisser. The Unreal 3.0 engine allows for excellent character detail.
A knee in the back drops Batman in Klose Kombat. The camera pulls in dramatically for big hits like this.

The gameplay better be really assuring. Knowing they took out a key factor in an MK game.

Looks like it will be awsome though the T rating might turn away die hard MK fans looking just for blood.

DC is holding back... Fatalities are an essential part of Mortal Kombat. That's the only reason why MK became so famous, and stepped out of Street Fighter II's blockbuster shadow. Many MK, and DC fans will be disappointed. Count me out of this one... I'd rather spend my money on Street Fighter 4.

If this is for PS3, I will buy this. I have been a serious fan of MK (even though I suck), and I was actually a bit nervous when I saw this. But I'm actually happy that Mortal Kombat 8 is actually fixing the problems they have. For instance, a minor problem that is called "graphics". Armageddon's were just....blargh. And this time, the game looks much more serious. Although MK is a mature franchise, I cannot take it seriously. Seriously.....the roster of Armageddon is a mixture of saber-toothed dudes morphed into DOA chicks and ninjas morphed into superheroes. Plus rediculous fatalities. Speaking of fatalities, I'm actually GLAD they got rid of fatalities. Okay, look at Armageddon's. And Deceptions. They SUCKED. The classic ones were badass and short, while the recent ones are overdone and lame. At this moment, I feel MK doesn't need fatalities.
