Feature: Who's the Crash King? - Burnout vs. MotorStorm
Whose crash reigns supreme? We match up screens from two of the best new-gen racing games to find the king of the crash!
It's hard to resist the urge to smash things up once in a while. So we have a little fun with two of the most destructive console racers out there: Sony's PS3 off-road powerhouse MotorStorm and Burnout: Revenge for Xbox 360. We match up the in-game pile ups to see who emerges the console leader in craziest crashes. The results may surprise you...
Burnout: Revenge
MotorStorm
In Burnout: Revenge, developer Criterion really stepped up the technology from the PS2 and Xbox versions of the same name. The most noticeable differences are in the actual scratching and denting of the cars that result from "trading paint" in the game.
MotorStorm crashes are less "in your face" but the above crash shows off the game's Havoc physics where pieces of the truck have literally exploded off. And the engine fire is a nice touch.
Burnout: Revenge
MotorStorm
The above Burnout shot shows that it can also deal in the business of destruction, as the front of the car gets seriously impaled. Fewer parts go flying, but Burnout adds a nice touch with fiery sparks.
Again, MotorStorm displays its obvious strength in destructible models, as wheels, shocks, and other parts propel off in every direction.
Burnout: Revenge
MotorStorm
The Burnout "takedown" is arguably the most testosterone-inducing maneuver in gaming, and it is evident in the above screenshot. But here, Burnout also proves it can handle destruction, as this auto is absolutely destroyed.
MotorStorm counters Burnout's up-close action above, as truck parts get tossed right into the screen.
