First Look: ATV Offroad Fury

ATV Offroad Fury takes your PS2 deep into the dirt in the saddle of a 4x4 for competitions filled with jumps, bumps, tricks, wrecks, and more.

While PS2 owners wait for what could be the ultimate racing game (Gran Turismo 3, that is), Sony's got an intriguing alternative coming your way this January. ATV Offroad Fury takes you deep into the dirt in the saddle of a 4x4 for competitions filled with jumps, bumps, tricks, wrecks, and more. Fury provides ATVs from Honda, Yamaha, and Polaris for action on more than 20 tracks that range from supercross-style stadiums to tricky outdoor circuits to wide-open heats where you blast across two square miles of terrain.

The action focuses less on the mechanics of cornering, and more on the timing of jumps. An early preview version had a very comfortable, natural feel that made getting up to speed a very easy process, but it was also clear that mastering the jumps and other dynamics of the ATVs would offer plenty of challenge and depth. Visually, Fury looks pretty sharp with sleek terrain, awesome ATV models, and some of the coolest lighting yet seen on the PS2. A kickin' soundtrack will pace the action with tunes from bands like Primus, Soundgarden, Alice in Chains, and more.

While ATV racing isn't likely to appeal as broadly as GT3's action will, Fury looks like it might deliver some engaging PS2 racing that should bridge the gap between Smuggler's Run and GT3.
