Hands-On: Kessen

GamePro got its hands on the PS2 war strategy title Kessen, and we can hardly wait for the English version to come out in the fall. You will command the forces of Ieyasu Tokugawa or Mitsunari Ishida in the famous story of the Battle of Sekigahara. This is no history lesson though; this is all out war.

Prepare for Battle
GamePro got its hands on the PS2 war strategy title Kessen, and we can hardly wait for the English version to come out in the fall. You will command the forces of Ieyasu Tokugawa or Mitsunari Ishida in the famous story of the Battle of Sekigahara, fought in Japan in the year 1600. This is no history lesson though; this is all out war.

Tactics are useless - everyone attack!
From samurai to cavalry to beautiful female musketeers, Kessen has everything a good battle needs. Your lords are all unique, with fantastic costumes and temperamental personalities. There's also a dramatic plot line that unfolds with each victory, keeping you fully entertained between skirmishes. There will be tons of commands to give your armies, ranging from employing special tactics, calling full retreat, and of course, moving and attacking.

Charge!
So far, Kessen looks like a great introductory title for the PS2. The beautiful artwork and cinema scenes definitely do Sony's new console justice. Although at times the game seems more like a novel than a war strategy, Kessen should cure any PS2 fevers when it reaches America this fall.
