Hands-On: TimeSplitters: Future Perfect
Humor and eccentric storyline makes a return, though visuals were still a bit rough.
Even in an early build of the game, Future Perfect already seemed destined to follow in the glory of its TimeSplitters brethren. Although the visuals still needed much work (there was plenty of frame rate problems and it still didn't look very sharp and detailed), the gameplay felt what an arcade first-person shooter should feel like: fast shooting action with lots of enemies coming at you.
Developer Free Radical Design is also quick to point out that unlike past TimeSplitters games, Future Perfect will have a much more engaging storyline to keep the solitary gamer interested until the very end. Online play will be more robust, too. Up to 16 people can deathmatch at once and co-op online play will be available on both the PS2 and Xbox. The popular map editor returns with many more options and a simplified interface that will make it easier for newcomers to build complex maps and then share them with other people online.
If the visual presentation can be smoothed out, Future Perfect could certainly turn into a perfect future.
