One of Sony's most anticipated titles this E3 has got to be Killzone, their entry into the crowded first person shooter genre. After spending time with the game on the floor of the E3 show in Los Angeles, it's clear even at this stage of development that the PlayStation 2 still has lots of new tricks up its sleeve.

The playable level took place in a series of buildings and tunnels that needed to be secured, inch by bloody inch. You're a member of the rebel fighters going up against the formidable looking armored soldiers with the red, glowing eyes. It's quite a site to see a number of these crimson beacons bearing down on you and reigning a hail of bullets to boot. The overall look of the game is a bit dark and gritty, but still wonderfully detailed. The architecture of the buildings don't have the cookie cutter, generic look, but rather feel like actual locations.

The audio was a bit hard to make out, but the yelps and commands screamed by your teammates lent a realistic touch since you're moving constantly with your squad. The controls felt good at this point and as solid as any fps game has on the PS2. It is a bit hard to aim accurately with the dual analog sticks, but that's consistent with all games in that genre on Sony's system. You use the two analog sticks to move and aim your weapon, the R1 button shoots your main weapon, the R2 is your secondary fire, L1 is grenades, and holding L2 will keep you in a crouch.

The demo ended once you advanced to the checkpoint, but only after going through waves of well positioned foes. Luckily a handy sniper rifle was available to take out pesky window rats. Killzone is definitely a game to keep an eye on this upcoming fall.
