First Look: The Predator [E3 2004]
The Predator roxors so take a look inside!!
Interest in that ol? Aliens Vs. Predator rivalry reaches its peak thanks to the upcoming film. So what better time for VU Games to reveal they?re doing a game based on the Predator (without the Aliens) license? The story, written by post-modern comic book scribe Grant Morrison, is a surprisingly genre-bending tale that spans centuries and builds upon the mythos established in the comic books. The game starts off on Earth in the 1930s, as the Predator tries to take out a powerful mobster who?s got the city by the private parts. In these early portions, you?ll be fighting lots of gangsters with tommy guns. Ultimately, the Predator fails at his mission, and is exiled by the Weyland-Yutani empire to a ?Hell planet? in disgrace. One-hundred years later, The Predator gets a second chance to come back to Earth and undo some of the damage he?s done, returning to the year 2030 to topple the mobster?s now century-old empire and bring honor back to his name.
The third-person gameplay takes place in an ?urban jungle? setting. Levels are designed so that the city is your playground, and any building can be climbed, scaled, and leapt from thanks to the Predator?s agility. All of the Predator?s infamous ?vision? abilities, including thermal, neuro, prey, and tech, are in the game, and you?ll have to use them to sense different objectives and enemies as you play. He?ll also, of course, have a number of efficiently cruel weapons at his disposal, including wristblades, a combistick, a speargun, and a smartdisk. While this first glimpse at The Predator is promising, there there?s still a lot of the game we haven?t seen. The game is still quite early in develpment, with a tentative release date of early 2005 on PS2 and Xbox.
