Hands-On: EverQuest Online Adventures

If you don?t already have a reason to take your PS2 online, here?s one more incentive to give that Network Adapter a look.

EverQuest Online Adventures has finally entered Beta, and there were a few new treats for EQ veterans and n00bs alike. Aside from all the new cities, NPCs, and areas for adventure, EQOA will present a completely new way to play EverQuest.

EQOA will be completely playable with a PS2 controller, and in the beta version, the controls were already smooth and easy to learn. Combat will be simple: You?ll target an enemy with R1 and hold down the X button to make it dead. EQOA?s special abilities, which you?ll learn by buying a scroll or receiving one as a quest reward, will make combat more interesting. Abilities will include spells for spellcasters and special combat maneuvers for more burly combat types. If you?re planning to be social at all, though, you?ll want to invest in a USB keyboard for your PS2.

If the final version is any better than the beta, it will definitely grow on those of you who are dying for an online hackfest for the PS2.
