Second Look: Virtua Fighter 4
Sega?s premier brawler continues to shape up for its PlayStation 2 showdown. Latest screens and details inside.
The release of Virtua Fighter 4 on PlayStation 2 is just a few weeks away, but the lucky Japanese will have their copies next week. The only major difference from the import version and the domestic release will be that we will not see PS2 hard drive support here. It?s not crucial to the game and Sony has not even hinted at a solid American date for the peripheral so it?s really a non-factor.
Based off our hands on with an advance copy, we can safely say that this is possibly the best port of any Virtua Fighter to a home system. The only noticeable differences between the arcade and PS2 version are minor texture flaws and some jagged edges. The horizon on some of the stages is not quite exact, but this is some extreme nit picking.
The training mode is amazing and truly teaches you everything you need to know to become well versed with the fighting engine. If things hold up or heaven forbid, improve between now and March, fighting fans may spontaneously self-combust with joy when they finally get to play it.
