Hands-On: Forever Kingdom

The follow up to Evergrace is actually a prequel! Check out the first screens and details about the overhauled game engine.

While not a huge departure from Evergrace, this follow-up to the old PS2 launch RPG adds plenty of new twists?including a step back in the time line. Forever Kingdom puts you in control of three adventurers bound together by a curse that forces them to share each other?s fate?literally. If one party member dies or gets injured, they all do. It?s a clever way of adding the more strategic combat and exploration elements without adding a ton of tedious micro-management.

The battle engine works like this: You control only one of three three party members at a time, while the computer controls the others, jumping in now and then to pitch in and. At certain appropriate times, you can do group ?Palmira? attacks, which can work in combos or as separate attacks. Even though they?re very easy to perform, there?s a tutorial available for folks who might need a bit more help grasping the concept. Forever Kingdom is currently set for a release around January of 2002, but we?ll have a review a bit before that.
