First Look: NASCAR Heat
The PS2 is pulling out of pit lane and onto the fast track! NASCAR Heat will deliver days of thunder to stock-car racing fans with a healthy dose of simulation and arcade options.
Get ready for the green flag, 'cause NASCAR Heat is turning left onto the PS2 this June. Two difficulty settings will enable you to pick between precise and more forgiving driving modes, and a plethora of driver views?including some unique internal car cameras?will make NASCAR Heat a leader in innovation.
Twenty-six drivers from the 2000 season will compete on 19 Winston Cup tracks in the game. Players will be able to pick from the likes of Terry Labonte, Jeff Gordon, Dale Jarrett, Mark Martin, and others to drive on the hallowed asphalt of Daytona, high-speed Talladega, or the twists and turns of Sears Point.
Single race, Season, and Race the Pro (where you have a quick showdown race against a single opponent) will round out the game options. Two-player mode will enable you to go head-to-head in a single race with one of your friends on a split-screen. In addition, a cool Beat the Heat mode will put you in specific race situations that last a few minutes: For example, 10 laps to go and you're running low on gas. Do you pull in for a quick pit and try to make up the time, or do you stay out and try to conserve fuel?
Hardcore enthusiasts will also enjoy the support for Logitech's PS2 steering wheel, as well as numerous mechanical tweaks and a dynamic tire wear display that shows wear on the outside, middle, and inside of each individual wheel.
Aside from the PS2 version, there will be an Xbox version of the game as well, possibly available at launch. The Xbox version will have a full 43-car field with 50 percent more polygons.
