Second Look: ATV Offroad Fury

The dirt flies high in this off-road racing game. Climb into your four wheeler and fasten your safety belt, 'cause you're gonna need it!

ATV Off-Road Fury will be tearing up the dirt on the PS2 when it arrives in a couple of weeks. If you enjoyed the likes of Jeremy McGrath or other motocross games on the PlayStation, then ATV is right up your alley. The game lets you pick from a number of racing options: The Freestyle Competition enables you to roam the terrain pulling off jumps and tricks for points as a timer ticks down; Cross Country Enduro is wide-open checkpoint racing; MAXXIS Nationals takes place on more open outdoor tracks; and in Stadium Supercross, you race on tight stadium tracks. Pro-Career has you create a rider, pick an ATV, and compete in a series of races.

There's a useful training mode as well, while, in single races, you can pick the number of laps as well as the track length. Lap Attack lets you try to set the time record for the course, and Practice gives you the opportunity to check out individual track layouts and plan race strategy at your leisure.

In ATV, races are hotly contested, with the lead changing hands often. To stay ahead of the pack, gamers will need to rock the analog stick back and forth for maximum air off jumps. Timing your rider's weight shifts will be critical to race success. If you hit a jump incorrectly, your rider is going to eat dirt hard! Plus, during races, you get to gawk at your aerial moves with the action cam button; hold down the R2 button, and you'll view from a cool spectator-perspective.

Buckle up your boots and don your helmet (safety first!) because ATV Off-Road Fury is set to inject some mud-slinging adrenaline when it comes out February 2nd.
