Sega's Samba De Amigo has made its way from the arcades to the Dreamcast. This maraca-shaking rhythm and music game is a sweet break from the usual. It's colorful, lighthearted, and good fun, but there are a few caveats.

Shake, Shake, Shake!
Samba De Amigo makes you shake a pair of maracas to the beat of various music tracks. While you can play the game with the Dreamcast controller, it's a bit awkward because you'll often have to hit two buttons with one finger (i.e. A+B button for lower right). The Samba maracas are much, much better and more fun to use, but the price is steep ($80), and they may be hard to find.

As in any rhythm and dancing game, the music is the centerpiece. In Samba, there are some fun Latin remixes of popular tunes like A Ha's Take On Me, The Macarena, and some original tunes scored just for the game. Overall, the music is good with a mix of fun and light tunes that range from slow salsa shakers to more fast-pumping Latin rhythms. Samba's graphics run wild, with bright colors and a ton of background animations. It's almost overwhelming at times, but all the action onscreen is fun to watch even if you're not playing.

Looking Suave
Overall, Samba De Amigo is a fun diversion, but it's not particularly deep. There are a number of game modes to keep you busy, and it's definitely a fun party game, but to get the best experience, you'll have to shell out for the expensive maracas, and for many gamers, it just won't be worth it.
