  • When Square Enix re-releases RPG games, they often tread a fine line between creating thoughtful remakes or hatred-inspiring rehashes. I'm happy to report that Kingdom Hearts Re:Chain of Memories, a PS2 port of a GBA game, falls in the former category-it's a worthy addition to the much beloved franchise as well as a compelling choice for diehard fans as it sheds some much needed light on events from past entries in the Kingdom Hearts franchise. Series noobs, however, might find themselves a little lost in the intricate plot that Kingdom Hearts has spawned thus far.
  • Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 4
  • Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 4 posted on 12/1/2008
  • An enormous fan of the past installments in the Persona franchise, I'll be the first to admit that I was a tad skeptical when I heard that Persona 4 was dropping as soon as the end of 2008. Wrapping up my fourth run-through of Persona 3: FES, I was starting to feel like there wasn't anything else the series could throw at me that I hadn't seen before - and certainly not in such a short time span With the announcement that P4 would also be releasing on the Playstation 2, I couldn't help but worry; would this just be Persona 3 with a fresh coat of paint and a new cast of cookie-cutter characters? I'm happy to report that while Persona 4 does hold quite a few similarities to its predecessor, it proves itself as a brand new experience from the ground up with unprecedented levels of innovation, character, and outright charisma. Persona 4 may very well prove to be the shot in the arm that the RPG genre is in such dire need of.

  • Atlus is loaded with fantastic strategy RPG titles, and their latest release of the Japanese title, Eternal Pink, literally keeps us waiting for more.

THE BOTTOM LINE: If you're looking for a fast-paced game, this is not one of them. Although the load times can be excruciatingly long, there are quite a few things worth waiting for--especially if you can appreciate good storytelling and artwork.
  • Dragon Ball Z: Infinite World
  • Dragon Ball Z: Infinite World posted on 11/4/2008
  • As the last DBZ game in the PS2's library, Dragon Ball Z: Infinite World is both a mediocre effort and an overall disappointment from Atari and Dimps. Even fans of the series will be hard pressed to favorably compare DBZ: IW against the rest of the Budokai series, mainly due to a modestly tweaked fighting system, a frustrating new mission mode, and tons of missed potential. If you've played a Budokai game before, feel free to skip this last entry.

THE BOTTOM LINE: Even with improved graphics and a large character roster, Dragon Ball Z: Infinite World ends the DBZ series on PS2 with a bust instead of a bang.

  • Taking a PSP game and porting it over to the PS2 is a dicey proposition. But when that port is being handled by the developers at David Jaffe's new studio, Eat, Sleep, Play, there's reason to hope for the best. And guess what: Twisted Metal: Head On: Extra Twisted Edition is pretty good. Okay, the graphics aren't that great butconsidering its budget minded price, it's not a bad deal. So come along as we explore the demented world of vehicular homicide with our review of this PS2 port. We call shotgun!

  • I play a lot of RPG titles but Soul Nomad takes the prize for having the zaniest lines of dialogue I've ever encountered. "She just makes me want to punch kittens," "Why can't you get that through your thick bovine skull," and "who can compare to my indestructible ass," are just some of the more eloquent utterances you'll encounter.

  • Prepare yourself for a feast of mashed buttons as Warriors Orochi dishes out a heap of hack-and-slash action. You'll slice and dice the Asia of old in this hybrid button-masher, but unfortunately, the game's monotonous action and lackluster presentation offer little sustenance.

After ten years of making fun and accessible golf games, Hot Shots Tennis arrives, attempting to adapt Hot Shots Golf's winning formula and turn it into another lucrative franchise.
