Tomb Raider

The N-Gage lets you take Lara wherever you like and offers a network-ready Assault Mode.

The N-Gage will give you the chance to take Lara wherever you like, but will you like what you see? True to the franchise, the game features exploration, puzzle solving, and monster shooting. But blocky, oatmealy graphics create muddy environments that are nigh impossible to navigate. Oft times you can?t tell if you?re walking down a corridor or into the corner of a large open area. The lack of detail and depth perception poisons every aspect of play. Untenable controls and a poorly functioning in-game camera are further detriments to gameplay. Sound effects are either unremarkable or sound like distorted static, doing little to create an immersive ambience.

The network-enabled Assault Course lets you race against a downloaded ghost image of another player?s best run through the course. While it presents an interesting innovation, the unresponsive controls, Lara?s inconsistent inertia, and an erratic camera dampen the competitive edge. It?s an interesting concept in mobile gaming, but the execution leaves much to be desired.
