Do You Believe In Magic?
Rayman 2 : The Great Escape is sure to impress everyone the minute they see the changes made since Rayman's first appearance a few years back. You'll be swinging through jungles, swimming in crystal clear rainforest streams, climbing in between walls, flying helicopter-style with your ears, and, of course, shooting bad guys with the stores of energy flying from your fists. Not only will you be treated to great gameplay, but Rayman 2 also has an awesome storyline and seamlessly fluid animations that make it tough to stop playing. Nevertheless, when the time does come to stop, you'll want to make sure that you have a memory card because you definitely won't beat Rayman 2 in one sitting.
Once the game begins (after a sweet opening movie sequence), you'll be submersed into a world of well-designed levels and challenging obstacles, with animations in just the right places at just the right times. As Rayman, you'll be on a mission to recover four magic masks which, once reunited together, will awaken and free Poluchus, whose powers allow his dreams to become reality, helping Rayman restore peace to his threatened land.
Go, Go Gadget Helicopter Ears!
In addition to a well-developed storyline and awesome cinematics, you'll find a near perfect game in every other department as well. As far as graphics go, they're outstanding. There's hardly any noticeable fog or pixel dropout and the variation in scenery keeps things from getting stale and boring. Rayman himself moves smoothly throughout, and the option of manipulating the camera angle is a welcomed, useful feature. The controls are basic and easy to use as well, so anyone can pick up and play Rayman 2 without the fear of being overwhelmed. You should be prepared for moves that require impeccable timing as well as ones that require some thought beforehand. It's a little bit awkward learning how to navigate Rayman when he's swimming underwater, but after it becomes familiar it's all smooth sailing. Rayman's talent of using his ears as helicopter propellers is also nice, just what you need to navigate out of a sticky situation.
Addicted to lums!
After playing great games like Mario World, Zelda, and the scores of other 3D platformers out there, you'd think that they would become redundant and lack originality. Well, think again. Rayman 2 brings the same kind of fun that you will find in other great games of the genre, while at the same time creating its own identity and following. When it comes right down to it, Rayman 2 rocks!
