Strategy Guide: Super Smash Brothers Melee (Advanced Techniques)
Advanced Techniques
Roll 'n Grab
A useful evasion-attack combo. It's not quite a reversal on a DOA3 level, but it's the closest Smash Bros. comes.

If you feel an attack coming, quickly put up your shield (hold DEF) and roll through your opponent. Tap A (while still holding DEF) once you reach the other side, then pummel him (repeatedly tap A) before hurling him away (tap AD).

Edge Master
After you send an opponent over a bottomless edge, they'll inevitably try to return.
To prevent their return, wait until they use their special third attack jump, then whack 'em with a projectile attack to send 'em back out. Make sure you're a little bit back from the edge so their third attack ?jump? doesn't hit you. And choose your projectile wisely, since some (like Link's boomerang) are blocked by your opponent's third attack jump.
Your opponents will be able to use the special third jump again, so they may still have some life in them. Hit 'em with another projectile, or leap off the edge onto their heads with an attack (down A) and triple jump back to safety.
Go ahead. Be a bastard.

Edge Faker
If you know you're battling an Edge Master, it may be time to move beyond the standard triple-jump technique and use the Mid-Air Dodge (AD DEF). Edge Masters who try to score the final KO with a jump attack out will be in for a surprise if you use this technique: Instead of bouncing off your head, they'll just pass right through you and fall off the bottom of the screen, killing themselves.
Grappling
A few characters (like Link) can use their Grab move as a way to save themselves. Just tap Z as you're falling to latch onto a ledge.
