Hitman 2: Silent Assassin

Despite its age, Hitman 2 scores a hit on the GameCube.

Although thought to be out of action since its rousing release on the PC, PS2, and Xbox last winter, Hitman 2 finally resurfaces for the GameCube, and is still in good shape as one of the best hired killers in the genre.

In the game, you take control of an assassin who travels the world, performing high-risk hits on high-profile names. But this third-person thriller isn?t just a fragfest. Instead, you must use some stealth, a little ingenuity, and lots of creativity to eliminate your targets. You?ll need to determine the best way to complete your objective even though there are multiple ways to do it. You can shoot everyone, poison a meal, plant a bomb, or just snipe the target from a distance. Whatever you choose, however, will determine how the enemies will react to your offense, making each mission worthy of a few replays.

This version of Hitman 2, though, could have used extra polish before being hired. If it weren?t for the low frame rate?evident especially in the outdoor environments?and the really dumb A.I., the action would have been more pleasant. Even the sounds of weapon fire and panicking victims should have been refined. The once complex control scheme found in the previous versions, however, has now been streamlined, creating an easier feel on the fingers and making the gameplay more enjoyable. If you haven?t played Hitman 2 yet, now?s a good time to play it.
