Review: Crazy Taxi
Still crazy after all these years, Sega?s neo-classic driving game hits the GameCube.
The Nintendo GameCube version of Sega?s beloved cabbie contest is as straight a port as you can get?right down to egregious product placement and a few graphical flaws. Those things, like everything else here, were in the Dreamcast and PS2 versions, along with the Crazy Box skill tests and both the arcade and original game modes. As always, you?ll need to jump in your cab, pick up passengers, and deliver them at blinding speeds, smashing through anything that gets in your way. Unfortunately, you can?t excel at the game without mastering advanced techniques like Crazy Start and Crazy Drift, and while the Crazy Box gives you a chance to practice those skills, it doesn?t necessarily teach them to you. The GameCube controller responds well, and both the silly speech quips and the Offspring punk tunes sound great. The frame rate doesn?t falter, but you can?t help but be disappointed by the graphical pop-up. Still, if you haven?t yet had your fill of Crazy Taxi, this tiger in your tank will satisfy.
