First Look: Super Monkey Ball
Not to be confused with just plain ol? regular Monkey Ball.
If the prospect of a monkey without pants named AIAI!!! rolling around in a hamster ball competing for fresh Dole? fruit products does nothing for you, then?well, GamePro sheds no tears for you, o soulless devil-thing. Those with their inner children still intact, however, will be unconditionally thrilled to know that ?pantsless monkeys collecting fruit in translucent spheroids? just happens to be the subject matter of one of Sega?s first games for the GameCube.
Much like a primate, your goal in Super Monkey Ball is deceptively simple?guide your balled simian through one of over 100 obstacle-laden tracks to the finish line, keeping him/her from falling off the edge, collecting point (and potassium) packed bananas along the way. However, rather than directly controlling the plastic-entombed apes (for what force could possibly tame them?), it?s your job to control the world beneath their feet, tilting and jostling the floor to get the balls to roll where you wish. A 4-player split screen mode ensures that, when you gather your friends for a communal bout of chimp steering, things will get exponentially ridiculous.
The good news is that Super Monkey Ball is currently on track for a release not too long after the GameCube launch?but don?t get too excited just yet, ape lover! The ?Cube isn?t out ?til November?and ?til then the Ball is sadly out of your prehensile reach.
