First Look: Luigi's Mansion

It?s a me, Luigi! Luigi? Yes, Luigi that oft forgotten brother of Mario will finally get a spotlight all his own.

Mario is missing in a mysterious house and it?s up to his younger brother to get him out of hot water for a change. Luigi?s Mansion is that flagship title Nintendo always rolls out to launch one of their new systems, and it?s a doozy. Taking a cue from Ghostbusters, Luigi creeps around with a flashlight and modified vacuum cleaner, which work in combination to first stop the ghosts in their tracks, and then suck them in to capture them. The game is packed with some very sweet special effects with neat smoke and lighting tricks. While many of these effects are nothing new, the game has managed to present them in delightful ways that make you wonder why no one else has thought of them, as well as helping you to buy into their hype of ?the Nintendo difference?.

The control scheme is the only part that will take some getting used to, especially for those of us used to the Resident Evil school of controlling characters in 3D. It actually makes a lot more sense for people new to games though. Luigi?s Mansion is a launch title so expect to see it hit store shelves with the GameCube on November 5th. Boo!
