Review: King of Fighters EX: Neo Blood
It had cartoony characters on the Neo Geo Pocket, but King of Fighters tries to be all grown up for its GBA debut.
SNK?s elite fighter gets condensed into a handheld, but retains its arcade cousin?s good looks. In fact, King of Fighters EX: Neo Blood?s character sprites look so shockingly close to those of the coin-op, you?ll wonder if enchanted elves are inside your GBA working some wonderful magic. Unfortunately, the game has some amazingly grating music and scratchy sound effects that are probably due to all that effort put to the visuals. The hallmark of a good brawler are controls, and Neo Blood gets most of the feel right, but some dodgy hit detection and jarring gaffs in animation prevent it from being a true proving ground for skilled players. All in all, King of Fighters EX: Neo Blood is a solid fighter that?s worth a look from the dedicated as long as you can overlook the sound and gameplay issues.
