Hands-On: Spyro Orange: The Cortex Conspiracy

Crash and Spyro team up to save the world in a unique combined story.

Not since the Odd Couple have we seen a weirder pairing than that of Spyro and Crash Bandicoot. In Spyro Orange (and Crash Purple?see below), Evil Ripto from Spyro?s universe has joined forces with Neo Cortex from Crash?s. You fly Spyro around various worlds to collect gems and cards by unlocking portals to mini games. With the cards you can trade or unlock additional characters in multiplayer mode. Crash pops up now and then in the story, but he isn?t playable except in multiplayer mode.

The preview build of the side-scroller was fairly easy but felt unfulfilling?the enemies didn?t put up much of a fight, and these days, trading cards is about as cool as watching grass grow. The mini games seem to be the real meat of the game, those some were more frustratingly challenging than others
