I tried hard to hate Gears of War, I really did. I think it was those commercials. You know, the ones with that weepy song from Donnie Darko playing in the background? Puhh-lease.
But aren't reviewers supposed to be objective, you ask? Not precisely. Video game reviewers are flesh-and-blood people, too, and we have opinions and predispositions and biases just like everyone else. At the end of the day, you're only human, and you need to be convinced.
Well, I'm convinced. For all its faults, Gears of War is the real deal. Here's why.
