Preview: NCAA Football 09

In addition to the improved graphics, NCAA 09 gives gamers extremely responsive control over the on-field action.

GamePro received a chance to get extensive hands-on experience with NCAA 2009, and I came away duly impressed. The most noticeable improvement is a big leap forward in visual quality and the end result is an experience that successfully captures the majesty and drama of college football on Saturdays across the country.

(As an aside, GamePro readers will be happy to know that this reporter was able to inflict a substantial three-quarter beating on a reporter from Game Informer.)

The other big news out of the NCAA 09 camp is the upcoming release of a brand new Wii-specific version of the game under EA Sports' recently announced "All Play" label, which emphasizes accessibility for Wii gamers. Key features in the All Play Wii version are:

Simple controls: The new All Play option allows players to easily control their team. You hike the ball by snapping the Wii-mote up. Players can throw the ball to the most open receiver by flicking the controller in a passing motion; you can select the appropriate receiver by pressing a direction on the D-pad. Running actions are controlled by the nunchuk. More advanced players can revert to the game's traditional Wii control scheme.

Mascot game: As with previous versions of NCAA football, you can choose to play a Mascot game pitting your favorite or most hated teams' mascots against each other.

Crisp, clean graphics: The Wii version of NCAA features a level of visual clarity that will probably surprise games familiar with the Wii version of Madden 2008.
