Preview: WWE Smackdown Vs. Raw 2008
Smackdown vs. RAW 2008 is completely different on each platform. Find out which version's for you.
With all the recent wrestling tragedies and unpopular incidents, video-game wrestling is the lighter side of the sport. The Smackdown! Vs. RAW series has consistently been the go-to guy for console wrestling, and 2008 is no exception. In fact, it's a pretty big jump ahead of last year's version.
THQ brought by three versions of the game--Xbox 360, Wii, and DS--each with its own special variety of flavoring.
From the Xbox 360 version
The Xbox 360 version of SVR 2008 is looking especially delicious in terms of graphics and physics tech. The biggest change this is year is the addition of the ECW, which brings into play new "extreme rules" matches. What does this mean? You can basically bludgeon opponents with all sorts of interesting objects like chairs and guitars.
You'll snag items from under the ring and unleash facially devastation results. There is a nice circular item selection tool that lets you choose what weapon you want to pick up. The crowd even gets in on the action and hands you a weapon now and then for that little extra hand.
More than that, though, is that the crowd looks better than ever. Each member of the first few rows is especially detailed with several animations that make each person appear unique. And the collision technology seems better than it was last year, where punches, kicks and hold are more realistic. On Xbox 360, there's also a new submission control that works by putting pressure on the analog stick.
