Rock Band

4) I Get By With A Little Help From My Friends

Sure, Guitar Hero lets you act like a rock god but it was a lonely experience, even if you had a buddy over to accompany you on bass guitar. Rock Band's four player action should give you the sensation of rocking out in a real band, which is the reason why most people pick up a guitar (or bass or drums) in the first place, isn't it? And if the Xbox Live functionality pans out, it's not hard to envision people forming virtual bands with members scattered all around the country. Speaking of which, keep an eye out for my Craigslist ad titled, "Rock Band Guitarist looking for Rock Band Drummer and Bassist" which will be posted soon after the game's release.

Rocking alone will only get you so far. To hit the big time, you gotta have some friends to help you. It's all about teamwork, kids.

3) The Complete Discography

One of the big bombshells dropped at EA's press briefing was the announcement of full album downloads; why settle for playing just one song from your favorite band's best album when you can play them all? They're starting with The Who but the sky is the limit, so long as royalty and licensing fees allow, of course. The Beatles, the Rolling Stones, Hendrix and Led Zepplin are just some of the artists whose discography could and should be mined for the full album treatment.

2) Drummers Get All The Chicks
Now you can fulfill your drum god aspirations without pissing off the neighbors. Or your parents.

OMG, that drum kit controller looks so awesome. I got a chance to see it up close and it looks insanely complicated. Unlike the guitar controllers which you can master without having actual guitar playing skills, the drum kit controller looks as if it'll mimic actual drum fills. But much like a real instrument, it looks as if you can improve your skills with practice, a phenomenon that all musicians and Guitar Hero players should be familiar with. Guitar Hero put guitar aspirations into the minds of a lot of gamers; no doubt, Rock Band will help create its fair share of budding drummers.

1) Know Your Role

Variety is another reason why Rock Band has me excited. Sure, the lead guitarist gets a lot of the glory but even a certified rock god like Slash would be just another dude making noise without Duff's thumping bass lines, Steven's rock steady drum beats and Axl's unique vocals. Giving you the option to play all of the instruments is sweet, especially if guitar isn't your thing.

Imagine finishing The Ramone's 'Rockaway Beach' and then launching into the other tracks from that album. How sweet would that be?
