Stuntman: Ignition (Page 2 of 2)

Multiplayer Details

The big news for Ignition is multiplayer. Faced with the difficulty of translating the same action and excitement from the single-player game, developer Paradigm was inspired to bring a similarly fun online multiplayer experience to the Stuntman series. But how do you translate a driving experience that is solely single-player focused? Simple: with variety and customization.

One giant leap of faith

THQ stopped by with the latest build of the game for a little online play session, running smooth via Xbox Live. Sports cars, 4x4s, motorcycles, and other types of vehicles are playable in a multiplayer mode that takes place is movie studio back-lots. There are plenty of customizable game options, and ranked matches record player scores, stats, and achievements that are posted via online leaderboards.

Multiplayer Modes

There are three basic multiplayer game modes. Back-lot Battle is set entirely in Hollywood back-lot arenas where you'll need to sting stunts together to beat out others players' scores. But because everyone is competing in the same arena, it's possible to swipe others' strings and points by smashing them up.

Back-lot Race is set in the same Back-lot arenas, but the objective here is to perform stunt maneuvers in a race instead of a point battle.

And what is the most direct simulation of the single-player movie sequences, Movie Challenge mode sets player against each other in any stunt from the single-player game. Opponents will appear as ghosts-so you can see them, but not actually hit them-and the winner, in combination with the highest score, takes the crown. Plus, there is a Stunt Tournament offline mode where you can pass the controller around and compete for the highest score.

The original Stuntman was received well by fans and critics alike, but was often shunned for its insane level of difficulty. Stuntman: Ignition already solves that problem with a new ratings system, and we're hoping the multiplayer turns out to be as good as it sounds.
