Masterful Tracks
But for all the hoopla regarding new gameplay elements, the music industry's aforementioned support will be what truly drives Guitar Hero III to success. Bands are flocking to lend master tracks of their best tunes to the game's song list. Unlike the first two titles, in which most tracks were only covers of the original songs, Neversoft's sequel will sport master recordings of over half the content, including the master track for "Cult of Personality" by Living Color, who re-recorded it exclusively for the game after they couldn't find the original.
They'll be joined by some incredible talent. Neversoft has already released the names of 12 other songs featured in the game, eight of which will be master recordings:
- Alice Cooper - "School's Out"
- Beastie Boys - "Sabotage" (master)
- Foghat - "Slow Ride"
- Heart - "Barracuda"
- Kiss - "Rock and Roll All Nite"
- Muse - "Knights of Cydonia" (master)
- Pearl Jam - "Even Flow" (master)
- Priestess - "Lay Down" (master)
- The Rolling Stones - "Paint It, Black" (master)
- Smashing Pumpkins - "Cherub Rock" (master)
- Tenacious D - "The Metal" (master)
- Weezer - "My Name is Jonas" (master)
On top of all that, Queens of the Stone Age has confirmed its involvement with the game, as has Velvet Revolver. And this is just a snippet of the final song list, which itself will grow after the game is released via downloadable content for all platforms.

The Long-Awaited Encore
If there's anything Guitar Hero fans want, it's more. They wanted more after the original game, and they got GH2. They still weren't satisfied, so Red Octane and Harmonix gave them a 360 version with more included songs, plus downloadable ones. Now, with the coming release of Guitar Hero III, if the gods choose to smile and Neversoft delivers, we'll get the chance to play classic Metallica, AC/DC, and Led Zeppelin, with the most glorious visuals delivered by the franchise to date. But Neversoft has a lot to live up to and a lot to fight against: Harmonix's Rock Band will be providing some incredibly stiff competition.
