Review: Indigo Prophecy

What kind of experience would the player have if they were limited to simple timing and motion control interfaces instead of intricate menus and battle systems of the traditional titles? It might sound lame to you, but Indigo Prophecy will prove you wrong.

What if someone used the videogame as a platform to tell a highly cinematic film story? What kind of experience would the player have if they were limited to simple timing and motion control interfaces instead of intricate menus and battle systems of the traditional titles? It might sound lame to you, but Indigo Prophecy will prove you wrong.

Prophecy is a suspense filled thriller which takes place during modern-day New York. Players will assume the roles of four various characters as they are intertwined in a paranormal murder case. The game starts you off as Lucas Kane who has just awakened from a paranormal trance clutching a knife over a dead man in the men's room of a diner. What ensues is a cat and mouse chase as the player takes control of both Lucas and his brother Marcus who are struggling to find out what happened to Lucas that night, and the two investigating detectives, Carla Valenti and Tyler Miles, who are trying to chase Lucas down.

Parallel Narratives Rock!
While the story progression is engrossing, Prophecy really shines with its unique thumbstick game interface which immerses the player into the cinematic nature of the game. When interacting with objects players will be prompted to emulate the motions of the character which adds to the enthralling realism of the game. During action sequences, players must copy onscreen thumbstick directions to successfully navigate the scenes.

Simple, Effective and Engrossing
Additionally, Prophecy utilizes a Mental Health gauge instead of the traditional health bar. Players will be tasked to maintain their characters gauge by interacting with positive things in the game world such as food, and loved ones. If you neglect the Mental Health gauge for too long your characters will have a mental breakdown--game over.

While Indigo Prophecy is an intense gaming experience, it's easier to compare the title to a film affair. If you can get past the minimalist game interface Prophecy can be an awesome entertaining play.
