Review: Outlaw Tennis

The Outlaw series befouls the fine sport of tennis.

The Outlaw sports series has already tainted the volleyball and golf circuits with their crass brand of vulgar, T&A interpretations of those contests, and Tennis keeps along the same lines. Outlaw Tennis is able to infuse some clever play mechanics in order to put a different spins on tennis with rules from other sports--such as baseball, football, and pong--and the additional hazards such as time-bombs and hot-potato timed explosives create pressure-cooker scenarios. Yet obnoxious flaws litter the court: The commentator's unfunny one-liners quickly grate on the nerves, and characters occasionally freeze-up and don't behave the way they should during a game, which is particularly annoying when facing the overly skilled A.I. Only casual tennis fans need apply here, and it's hard to argue with Outlaw's $20 asking price. If you're looking for a light alternative to Top Spin or Virtua Tennis, Outlaw is worth breaking the rules.
