Review: Kakuto Chojin
Out of nowhere, Microsoft brings out its own fighting game. Unfortunately, Kakuto Chojin doesn?t even come close to a top-prized brawler.
Although it?s slim pickings if you?re lookin? for a good fight on the Xbox, stay clear of Kakuto Chojin?unless it?s the only brawler that?s left on the shelves at the rental store on a Saturday night.
Kakuto Chojin attempts to be an exciting pugilist but fails miserably. The basic fight style seems acceptable on paper: Each combatant has low, medium, high, and special attacks, while specific button presses enable you to throw hard-hitting combinations. But once the round starts, fights are enervating to play. Slow button response is the major contributor to the awful gameplay. Additionally, pulling off a distinct combo requires the same button presses among all the fighters.
Even the sights and sounds are unbearable. Characters are shiny?literally?in detail: Clothes, skin, and hair all reflect light brightly and abnormally. Also, the fighting arenas are small, cramped, and designed with little imagination. Worst of all are the annoying and lame hand-slapping sound effects each time a fighter makes contact with their fists and feet.
Truly, Kakuto Chojin ranks low in the combat field. Don?t even bother participating in a match unless you?re willing to endure a lot of unnecessary pain.
