Hands-On: Top Spin
Playing tennis on the Xbox is a stroke of genius. Playing tennis online is simply an ace.
Microsoft?s turn on the tennis court could result in a grand-slam event. In fact, so far in early sets with Top Spin, the game played much like a young, enthusiastic, up-and-coming hotshot. The players were animated with realism, and doubles matches were hard to stop playing. And though the game needs more training in spots like button response and control, Top Spin is certainly on its way to becoming a high-ranking tennis pro.
To help Top Spin?s rise to stardom, Microsoft is investing in a hard-hitting lineup of both on- and offline features. To start, the game is part of XSN, Microsoft?s answer to an all-inclusive online sports league where you can set up matches and track stats. Other highlights in the game include a strong roster of 16 real-life pros, including men and women like Hewitt, Sampras, Kournikova, and Hingis; the ability to perform all of the tricky racquet shots like top spin, slice, and drop shot with just a button press; and the option to create and train your own player. Don?t be surprised if Top Spin is the top seed this November.
