First Look: Nightcaster
Battle against the forces of night in this 3rd person action adventure. Magic dominates the combat as a young wizard battles his life away on the Xbox!
The slew of Xbox games debuted at Microsoft's Gamestock 2001 included a good dose of 3rd person action adventure games. Nightcaster, under development by VR-1 Entertainment focuses on the use of elemental magic in combat.
You take on the persona of Arran, a young wizard who is trying to restore daylight to his world that is cloaked in constant night. Arran ages through the game as he gains power. Starting out as a young boy, by the end of the game, he is an old man but his attack radius and power are much higher.
Over the course of his adventure, Arran gradually gains access to over 40 spells from the Light, Dark, Fire & Water elements. In a unique twist, Arran uses a magical orb that orbits around him to cast magic. Gamers can control the position of the orb separately from Arran's own movement. This lets Arran effectively strafe and circle strafe around enemies. The pace of combat is also much faster than RPG games that traditionally use magic. Here, Arran can cast spells as fast as you can press the button, making Nightcaster more of an action game.
Nightcaster promises a unique take on the third person action game, it should cast its spell when the Xbox ships this fall.
