Will Far Cry 2 make you cry for more, or cry in pain?
I chose to write this review because it would be a challenge. Not like actually playing the game, in which you drive around Africa popping headshots faster than an obsessive compulsive man pops bubble rap. No, this is a challenge because it's hard to score. I'm going to mention all the major aspects of the game, and state the pros and cons. To start, the moment you get out of the intro sequence, you will notice that you are standing in a BEAUTIFUL world, big, expansive, and accessible. It's even got foliage and water, neither of which can hide you in combat, oddly. The graphics are amazing in this game, for the guns, cars, animals, people, and landscape. However, with the possible exception of the guns, you'll be seeing the same landscape, animals, cars, and even PEOPLE over and over and over again. Variety is to this game what a fur coat is to an animals rights activist. Another thing is the combat. EVERY MISSION YOU DO WILL HAVE YOU KILLING SOMETHING. Whether you're blowing up a convoy for the black market, assassinating someone for the evil-sounding guy at the end of the phone, or taking story missions, you're killing and blowing up things. With no friendly A.I. I'm serious! You're alone for the entire f***ing game! Even in the survival horror games of today, I fell less lonely than when I'm playing this game! All the humans you meet, you're either getting bossed around by, delivering fake passports to, shooting in the face, being shot by in the face, or being told to eff off before they shoot you in the face (cease-fire zones only). Actually, that's not true. You do get friendly A.I. when the UNfriendly A.I. kills you. Usually, then you have to save them from harm, or, if harm finds them, you decide whether to return the favor and bring them back to fighting status, or put the tip of your pistol on your best friend's throat, and, while looking away and listening to their moans of pain, kill them. So, whenever there's friendly A.I., either you're bad at the game or the game wants to see just how kill-happy you are. Back to the combat, though, it is very satisfying and intense. You have not played a game with combat like it... unless you've played an FPS before. Never mind, it's good! And you've got a wide range of guns and toys you can play with, like bombs, dart rifles, and generic assault rifles, shotguns, and RPGs. But, once you peel away the layers of assault rifles that basically to the same "Point end of gun at man and shoot" job and other, more interesting weapons and locales, you'll realize that you're doing the same thing over and over again. You shoot people, heal, and repeat. Then, once you're either fleeing or standing on a pile of bodies big and brutal enough to shame Tiananmen Square, you'll realize that you've accomplished... exactly what you had accomplished earlier. You spend the whole game killing people. I'll have to cut this review a bit short, because, well, I never finished the game. I liked it when I played it, but I couldn't be bothered to finish it because the story just doesn't do it for me. I spent my time having fun with it, as should you. Rent before you buy. A 3 out of 5.

Far-what?
A good game is by all means a good game, just to be clear, but a good game is never any better if its a sequel without any ties to the related pre-quels. It's like playing Halo, except Master chief isnt there, the game seems to be a little suckier, and the story feels like its been told already before you've started the game.
Oh wait...(Halo ODST?)
Don't get me wrong, Far cry 2 had some good ideas, some good effects and some good gameplay; but the promises made were outrageously much better than what we had been given, i watched in awe as i saw a man take out a merc carrying a wounded merc, but when i tired copying what he did, all the mercs did was to jump a little, like there was someone behind them popping out, screaming "BOOGA BOOGA".
And the story had nothing to do with our man : Jack Carver, which made it more to me like "Cry 2" than "Far Cry".
The game was somewhat functional at the start and i believed that "Hey, at least its fun, right?", but then i quickly got to know that every fucking road had a small army base attached to it, with never-ending respawns of annoying soldiers i'd have to snipe from 20 miles away with a silencer and STILL be located after my first shot from behind the bushes with my extreme camo equipped and my shot so silenced i should have been able to shoot Owen Wilson without Ben Stiller noticing.
This made me realize the repetitive and boring A.I, and i stopped playing the game. I haven't beaten it yet, since i cared so little for the horrible voice acting and the stupid predictable story that was told to me like my drunken dad used to tell me stories of his nights out with hookers that were really transvestites.
So all in all : Buy it if you have money to waste.

Cool fun
I must admit, I'm not used to the whole "open gameplay" concept. But after a while, I began to enjoy it. Some of the area's may seem far apart, but once you play for a while, you find the area's closer together. I also liked it better in the higher difficulty, not because I like it to be harder, but because more seems to happen that way. Pretty much you go from one cool looking area to another, but it turns out to be a lot of fun once things start to warm up. The game looks great, it sounds realistic, and I love the way you can change your time of day via resting. It really changes the strategy. Do you attack at night or during the day? Overall, it may not be for everyone, but it's grown on me and now I'm hooked!

Far Cry 2, a Great Game!
First and foremost I would like to say the game is probably one of the most challenging fps I have ever played. I do miss the uniqueness of Jack Carver and the feral abilities, however the story is tight and actually makes you care. The weapon design, as well as realism brings about challenge as well as satisfactory pops. For one, it is a big challenge to run into a fire fight only to have the weapon you are carrying jam up, then having to hide to unjam and reload, while the fairly smart ai continues to hunt for you.
The landscapes are utterly beautiful, it is easy to get lost though, and sometimes it takes forever to get from one place to another. In the process finding hidden diamonds, etc.
If you like sandbox games, and fps you will love fc2.
