NHL 08 vs NHL 2K8
It's only been a few months since the Stanley Cup finals ended, but the hockey season is back already, meaning one thing - its time for another round of games developed by EA Sports and 2K Sports to go head-to-head.

Good Thing 2k does not have the liscensing rights for hockey
I think this game came out with bad timing. Here you have NHL 08 for ps3 and 360 both adding features we have been blaring to add and then some. At the same time 2k sports finally decides to copy somehthing EA created (skill stick) and make it worse.Just as NHL 08 shocked me, even with my high hopes, NHL 2k8 shocked me even though i knew it was just going to be a roster update that is holding back the innovation of hockey games. As much as EA games have been bashed for being roster updates this game is just that. Just like 2k7 this is not a next gen hockey game its just a better looking version of ps2 and xbox versions of the game. As a hockey player i really like to feel as close to playing as a can while holding the controller. The new controls even using my real world hockey instics take a period or 2 to almost get used to how bad they suck. They actually help slow the fluid motion of the game down unlike the skill stick EA controls that do the excact opposite. In an attempt to make this game more difficult they failed to make it feel like you were actually skating. The graphics are hammie downs compaired to NHL 08 but the only problem is NHL 08 has a smooth in game framerate which makes it alot better. In short this is a mediocre game that the NHL should learn why they do not need to give an excusive liscense to either franchise but 2k especally. I wanted to player hate this game since I prefer the EA games but it suked even more than i excpected this game to suck. EA is doing big things in hockey that are for once combining fun and simulation into one synergistic game. At the same time EA hockey is now flying at an all time high NHL 2k8 is moving hockey games at a pace as fast as a snail riding a bike with 2 flat tires.

NHL 2k8 nice graphics, awkward controls.
The graphics have been updated to a healthy next gen look. The problem is the controls. For me though, I don't mind going to the options and setting it to classic style. The game is fast furious and really more arcadey than the NHL 06 version I'm sticking with again for another year. EA's NHL 08 is for sim players this time around.
