I know that this is not neccessarily the best skating game ever released, but I'm so happy for it considering all that there is to offer. As you know, I'm all about getting the bang for my buck. Let me tell you, this game is packed to the brim with things to do. Good graphics, decent controls and a ton, REPEAT...TON of the things to do make this game fun for all ages (though the small amount of blood and scary beefs might offend parents). Tony Hawk's Project 8 is simple. Tony's got an idea for this schindig called "Project 8." It's an effort to find the BEST of the best skaters in town. You're rank at the beginning of the game is about 200th place. You create a character and give him her a name. Then you go skating. Normally, I highlight the cons of the game more often than Pros, but I'm still recovering from the shock of hours I've lost playing the game. I'm not a large gamer, myself...so I'm very excited to brag about this experience. Like I said, the game is HUGE. Rather than seperate levels, zones, whathave you, it's ONE BIG SPRAWLING WORLD. Kinda like Gran Theft Auto. You can walk about the terrain, yes, I said WALK, or you can skate around looking for things to do or places to skate. People walk up and down the streets, some of them with objectives for you to accomplish. If you look hard, you'll find the pros walking around...such as Tony Hawk, himself, Bam Margera, and even Jason Lee from Mallrats. That was funny. They're all working on project 8 and plan on testing you to the limits, so you'll frequently perform in front of audiences. Other pedestrians offer more personal agendas..such as "dad" teeing off in his back yard...may want you to go retrieve his balls and even catch them! A hot girl haunts the streets with her camera crew looking for pro shots of awesome stunts. She'll frequently wave you down for her purpose. The world is completely free roaming, and just as you might expect, completing these goals will open more areas of the terrain to your disposal. Also, your character has the ability to level up. Which makes it fun to just skate around and practice tricks and knock people over. You can build stats grinding the gutters of your house, or pick nick tables or shiz of the like. It's perfectly good fun. If you're of considerable age, certainly try it! Finally, there's the slow motion mode that offers you the ability to slow down the action mid air to adjust your balance and preform extra tricks. It's a great way to get more points, and it looks amazing. You feel like you're in the Matrix, or Max Payne. Good stuff. Now for the bad stuff. It is kinda hard. A lot of the higher level goals are very difficult to accomplish, and the xbox tends to fudge things up with strange frame rates. The camera is, at times, clunky when you're on foot, and the button mashing makes you feel uncomforatable with such an expensive item in your hands. The pros can tell you more, otherwise, I'll give this a perfect score and tell you that it is fun to play, it is NOT repetative, it's challenging, it looks really nice, and it's all lightheared...these guys, I guess, in some ways, are sharing what they love with us gamers, so let's not let them down! Enjoy it, for poop's sake!

Better than average game. I would recommend the game to anyone that like these types of games. No real changes but new maps. Maybe not the best installment of the game but still fun.

This is by far the best Tony Hawk game to date. The graphics are solid, and with the addition of Nail The Trick mode, the controls are very fluid. Online play is also good, but the lack of game types was dissapointing. Much more realistic than the previous games, and much less story based. Coming from a real skater, I can truthfully say that this is a great game and is definitly worth picking up.

Tony Hawk's Project 8
When it comes to the Tony Hawk franchise, it was love at first ollie for many of us. Since then, the series has gone through a couple of ups and downs and it had seemingly gotten stuck in a rut, as the games began to feel formulaic and tired.
